Act Now

The Global Sport Impact Fund (GSIF) offers €500,000 – €5 million for large-scale, sustainable sports development projects. Applications close on 30 September 2025.

About GSIF

GSIF is led by an international coalition of development finance institutions and global partners, committed to using sport as a driver of sustainable development. The fund blends concessional debt, guarantees, and technical assistance to de-risk projects and move beyond grant dependency.

Eligibility & Strategic Fit for South Africa

South Africa is explicitly listed as an eligible country. GSIF’s focus aligns with the government’s priorities in:

  • Expanding sports infrastructure (community gyms, play parks, school sport programmes)
  • Supporting youth development and transformation
  • Building sustainable financing models for the sector

Priority Funding Areas

  1. Community Sports Infrastructure – Facilities that are at least partially open to the public
  2. Human Capital Development – Academies, vocational training, and workforce development
  3. Multifunctional Sport & Wellness Complexes – Hubs linking sport with broader community services
  4. Community-Based Programmes – Grassroots initiatives for youth and social transformation

Funding Structure

  • €500k – €1.5M: Pilot projects or targeted expansions
  • €1.5M – €5M: Infrastructure-heavy or larger interventions

Key requirements:

  • Revenue-generating model (not grant-only)
  • Co-financing contribution
  • Debt financing eligibility (no equity)
  • Proof of readiness (governance, feasibility, compliance)

Who Can Apply

  • Public Authorities: Municipalities, provincial agencies, SOEs
  • Civil Society Organisations: NGOs, foundations, community groups
  • Sport Federations & Olympic Committees: Non-profit structures
  • Social Enterprises: Serving the public interest with strong governance

Preference goes to locally registered organisations with community ownership.
